McDonald's first challenged the international markets in the year of 1967 opening restaurants in British Columbia, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It was soon a major source of growth during the 1970's. McDonald's main focus was expanding beyond the United States border.

In 1968, McDonald's airlifted hamburgers to U.S athletes competing in Grenoble, France who were homesick for McDonald's food. Just recently at the 2012 London Olympic Games, the largest McDonald's welcomed athletes, family, and friends with hospitality and friendly smile.
